Weekly write #2: WW2 Muhlenberg Letters

Something really interesting that we did this week was looking at historical letters written by Muhlenberg men in WW2. It was fascinating learning about what these men went through while they still kept in touch with Muhlenberg College. We had to decipher what all the hand written letters in cursive meant. Something cool we also worked with was some carbon paper copies of responses from Muhlenberg back to the soldiers. This was a really interesting aspect because we were able to analyze both sides of the conversation that took place at this time. We also read some letters from typewriters that was really cool. I loved that we were able to analyze letters specifically written to and from Muhlenberg students during WW2.

Something this left me wondering is how during such a time people still found a way to communicate effectively and keep in touch. It really shows how important these letters were to people, as they were the primary source of communication during this time. It makes me wish that letters were still sentimental and used more in our present time.
