I think my strengths at the beginning of this class was writing well on demand. It was really helpful in the beginning of class, however I think throughout class simply being able to write fast wasn’t enough, therefore I have developed deeper thinking and more complex writing skills, as a result of this class. I have definitely grown in many ways was a writer and a reader in this class. I am able to do much deeper readings involving more critical thinking and analyzing. After reading and analyzing so many letters in this course, I feel that my critical reading skills have improved a ton. I have been able to notice and connect themes and similarities/differences throughout what I read, and notice important details. Throughout this class, I have also learned a ton about World War II, Love letters, letters within creative writing, letters everywhere. I think that is the main takeaway I have from this class is the realization of how important letters are to this world. They are everywhere, and they are always filled with meaning. Some of the major challenges I faced during this class was putting together my writing pieces. Finding evidence and connecting my ideas was really a struggle for me for a while, however I do think I have massively improved during this course. Something that I really enjoyed in this class was the creative writing unit. I have always enjoyed creative writing and it was so fun to do it in class as well as incorporating letter writing into it. I also wrote my final project and paper on epistolary style within creative writing, which was a really fun topic to do some research on. Something that I have found extremely useful to me that we have done in class are the free writes. I believe I mentioned this during my midterm process letter, however I feel the need to discuss it again. Free writes are such an amazing way to throw all your thoughts out on a piece of paper or document, and to organize those thoughts into something really meaningful. There are so many ways free writes can be used, not only just for brainstorming for writing. Sometimes I do it just to get my emotions out, which I have found to be really beneficial for me. I think my final grade in this first year seminar course should be an A-. I have completed all of my work for the entire course, and have put a ton of effort into everything. The only reason I should potentially receive an A- is because sometimes my ideas are a little disorganized, as well as occasionally lacking analysis. My goal when I was writing my midterm reflection process letter was to get my work up to an A from when I thought my work deserved a B. I feel that I have done that and really put even more effort into my critical thinking and writing work in the course for the second half.
